Abstract

This paper attempts to develop a model that would predict the probability of a faculty member leaving the organization either to transfer to another school or to depart from the teaching profession altogether. Demographic variables such as gender, age, career age, family/marital status, and others were considered as independent variables. The study used an experimental design using simulation modeling based on some assumptions. These assumptions were based on data obtained from previous literature. It was found that all the identified factors are significant predictors of departure intentions. Further, it was concluded that issues of job security and professional maturity are the most likely reasons for intentions of leaving among higher education academicians.
